I found this Pastor kumuyi's spiritual and educative message online so I share...
GREAT CALM THROUGH THE MASTER’S
INTERVENTION.
He took his text from Mark 4:35-41. Then he explained them verse by verse.
- 35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
1. The Passing Over To The Other Side
- 36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
2. His Presence In The Ship. He will always be in your life, family and
- 37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
3. The Peril Of A Great Storm
- 38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
4. Their Perplexity About His Sleep
- 39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
5. The Power Of Our Saviour
- 40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
6. The Problem Of Their Shallowness
- 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
7. The Perception Of His Sovereignty (that He rules the winds, storms, the souls of men, they now perceived His sovereignty).
He further elaborates as follows:
Tonight, we are looking at an event that reveals the humanity and the deity of Christ. The passage revealed the humanity of Christ on the one hand, He was tired and slept, and His Deity on the other hand, He rose up from sleep and rebuked the wind and there was a calm. Only God could do that without praying to another person, but with His own authority as the sovereign God.
As man, He was tired and fell asleep, as God, He controlled the winds, the waves and the sea.
He then divided the message into three points fix:
Point 1:THE PERSONAL PROCLAMATION OF OUR INFALLIBLE CHRIST. Mark 4:35
Christ Himself made the proclamation, “Let us pass over unto the other side”. Look at the end of the storm in Mark 5:1 ( Mark 5:1 And they came over unto the other side of the sea. . .) If Christ has spoken, it will surely come to pass. His promise to you will always be fulfilled. If Christ has said and announced it, it will surely come to pass.
The sea may roar, the storm may rage, but His words will still be done. Satan and sinners may be furious, His words will come to pass.
Dazzling sights I see, terrifying sounds I hear, they may fill the horizon, the words of Christ will prevail.
Tempest raging, billows rising, demons threatening, torrents of anguish, heights of anxiety, depths of grief, winds, waves of wrath may shoot up, their angry looks, all the same, all that Jesus said will be fulfilled.
The winds and the waves will obey His voice. Did He give you a promise in His word? Whatever He said in His word shall come to pass (Matthew 24:35 - Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away). The sky may roll over, the earth may be in turmoil, the sea may roar, challenges may come in your community or anywhere, whatever Jesus has said shall surely come to pass.
Jesus said, I and my Father are one. As the word of God will come to pass, so will the words of Jesus come to pass (Numbers 23:19-20) Jesus has spoken, the storms can not reverse it. Whatever promise the Lord has given us in His words will surely come to pass. Your life will be exactly the way Christ has planned it. What He paid for on Calvary will be fulfilled in your life.
Deuteronomy 18:18. This prophecy was about our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. God will raise Him up, and put His words in His mouth. (Acts 3:20-22) So when He said, let us pass over to the other side, you hear and believe Him, you will get ready to pass to the other side, regardless of whatever you see on the way. You look away from them and trust Him.
Isaiah 46:10-11
- 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:
- 11 Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.
Before they set out at all, Jesus had already declared what He wanted for them. What was the pleasure of Christ for His disciples as they were in the boat at this time? For them to pass to the other side safely. He knew that nothing will drown them in the sea. He has called them to bear fruits and be fruitful, so it was not possible for them to die in the storm. Satan has failed, and he will continue to fail in our lives, and family. Amen.
Isaiah 55:10-11
- 10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
- 11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
The storm, the waves, the contradiction from the enemies, the opposition from the world are not the greatest things in our lives, but the word of the Lord.
Jeremiah 1:12
The Lord will hasten His words to perform them in our lives.
Ezekiel 12:25,28
- 25 For I am the LORD: I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall be no more prolonged: for in your days, O rebellious house, will I say the word, and will perform it, saith the Lord GOD.
- 28 Therefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; There shall none of my words be prolonged any more, but the word which I have spoken shall be done, saith the Lord GOD.
Forget your perplexities and doubts, Christ has spoken His words in your lives, all that the Lord has spoken shall come to pass. Satan, storm and the problems of life cannot delay the fulfillment of His promises in your lives in Jesus name.
Hebrews 13:5-6
- 5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
- 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
In the time of needs, problems, He will never leave or forsake you. He is your helper. Christ is greater than your persecutors, opposers, storm, sickness and all those things that want to stop your journey halfway (vs 8. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever). If His words were fulfilled then, they will still be fulfilled now.
II Peter 1:19-21. We have a more sure words of prophecy by virtue of the death of Christ on the cross. He has sealed the promise with His blood. At the time Jesus told them to pass over to the other side, He had not died and given His life to us on the cross. His light will shine in your lives.
If the words spoke by the prophets came to pass, how much more the words of Christ who is greater than all the prophets put to together. His words will never fail.
Point 2: HIS PERFECT PEACE IN AN IRRECONCILABLE CRISIS.
Mark 4:37-40
How could Christ sleep in such turbulent situation? Well, He slept on the strength of the pillow of His word. He had told them, let us pass over to the other side. He was the creator of lucifer, the heaven and earth, and that one that became satan knew that if Jesus said anything, it was done. That was why He went to sleep. All the waters pouring into the ship was nothing.
He had told Peter, John and James that they should follow Him and He would make them fishers of men. He was going to leave the work in their hands and thousands would come into the kingdom through them. So, the storm was a child’s play. Amen.
Because in the Old Testament, it was prophesied that He would die on the cross. He knew He would die on the cross, and not on the sea. He knew His destiny. When you know your destiny, you will not be afraid of mosquitoes and cockroaches because the fire of the Holy Ghost would burn them down.
The disciples asked Him, Master, carest not thou that we perished? He rose up and rebuked the winds first before rebuking their faithlessness.
vs 38. The disciples wanted Jesus to be anxious, worried and afraid as they were. So they thought He did not care because He was asleep. He cares, we will not perish. He first of all rebuked the sea before coming to address their faithlessness.
The crisis that arose could not be reconciled with Christ’s promise, purpose, plan and presence. That was why they asked Him if He cared not for them. Their prayer is not the best model of prayer. From Him, by Him and through Him, I say peace be unto you.
In Christ we have:
1. Present peace
2. Promised peace
3. Priceless peace
4. Prevailing peace
5. Perpetual peace
6. Perfect peace. Isaiah 26:3
7. Surpassing peace
Confusion, threatening and storms are over in your life. There will be peace. Amen.
Isaiah 9:6-7
- 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The PRINCE OF PEACE.
If He is in your boat, heart, family, whatever problem you left at home, there will be peace.
- 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. Amen.
John 14:27
- Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Lord, I receive! No more fear, in your heart, in your anxiety, needs and fear of enemies, no more fear, but peace.
Romans 14:27; Ephesians 2:14-17; Psalm 119:165. Great peace is our portion.
Trust in the Lord forever, no matter what you see or hear. In the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength.
Isaiah 26:3; 48:18; Philippians 4:6-9. Be careful and worried for nothing. Whenever there are problems, go to the Lord as a son/daughter, not as an orphan.
Romans 16:20
20 And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
24 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
Point 3: THE PREVAILING POWER OF OUR IRRESISTIBLE CHRIST. Mark 4:39-41
Christ has power to calm every storm in your life. He has power to forgive, set free from sin, to convert and cleanse the soul, to crucify self and keep us sanctified, He has power to heal of fever and any other sickness. He has power to remove sorrow and grant you real joy. He has power to deliver and make you more than a conqueror, and triumph over all situations. You will win, overcome.
He has prevailing power and He is irresistible. Your prayer, promise, power, and the goodness of God to you tonight is irresistible
Matthew 28:18; Mark 13:24-26. Even when the antichrist is at its highest performance, Christ will come in great power. (Luke 9:43-44) His power will surprise and amaze you when He solves your problems (ch 4:36).
John 17:2. God has given Jesus power over all flesh.
Acts 10:38. Jesus went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, for God was with Him. Power for salvation, sanctification and Holy Ghost our portion tonight.
Hebrews 1:3-5. The hand that holds the universe with the word of His power has the power to uphold us. As we personalize and believe the word of God, it is done unto us.
Romans 4:19-21
19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb:
20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
- Abraham did not consider the situation of himself and his wife. Do not consider the wind, storm, persecution, or the enemy.
- He staggered not at the promise of God. Do not stagger at the promise of God. The promise has come to you tonight, believe it.
- He was strong, giving glory to God. I am strong in faith, giving glory to God. In the midst of storm and persecution, give glory to God.
- Be fully persuaded that this storm will come to an end. I am going to get to the other side, and that there will be peace.
He is able to:
* Quiten the storm
* Silence the enemy
* Save your soul
* Heal your body
* Quiten and stop demons from harassing your children.
Ephesians 3:20-21
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
Prayer:
- Rise up and receive from the Lord peace in your heart, soul, body, family and community. Fear of perishing or dying, go in Jesus name
