Yes, it's biblical to pray/speak in tongue but it's not a must nor by force neither does, not praying or speaking it tongue makes you less powerful christian or child of God like most pastors/churches make it seems thereby forcing people to speak in artificial, demonic or man-made tongue just to feel belong or out of fear.

Infact, 98% of those speaking/praying in tongue are either fake, man-made or demonic that's when you find people repeating the same words over and over again. (bla bla bla, iablakabala baka.. and all sort of rubbish like that)

I was a victim of demonic tongue. I was made to believe it's a must so I struggled and forced it. I succeeded but after a week attempt the lord showed me the spirit that actually possessed me each time I did which was a demon. I saw the demon descend from the heavenlies and as it often possessed me and disguise like the spirit of God.

You all should learn from these, speaking in tongue is not by force, please.
Violent prayer, faith, salvation accompany with holiness are more than a enough,(if you don't have the gift or grace to speak in tongue [yet]) please..!

Bless u

Just to add to what pastor said, this is what the Bible has to say about it

I Corinthians 14:1‭-‬19 NKJV
Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification. But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you unless I speak to you either by revelation, by knowledge, by prophesying, or by teaching? Even things without life, whether flute or harp, when they make a sound, unless they make a distinction in the sounds, how will it be known what is piped or played? For if the trumpet makes an uncertain sound, who will prepare for battle? So likewise you, unless you utter by the tongue words easy to understand, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air. There are, it may be, so many kinds of languages in the world, and none of them is without significance. Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the language, I shall be a foreigner to him who speaks, and he who speaks will be a foreigner to me. Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel. Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say? For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified. I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all; yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.

Ohk, thank You Sir4sharing that, thank You Nonop for sharing as well, where the verse say . "Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret."
I believe I understand it well that it is scriptural, meaning pray that He may interpreted the tongue??

That's why the bible emphasised more on the gift/power of prophesy above speaking in tongue.

Now ask yourself, How many people have you come across speaking in tongue that were able to interpret it at the same time?

That being said doesn't mean that speaking in tongue isn't sculptural or biblical.

I appreciate d quoted response below but wud like to ask a few questions to clarify my status.
I spoke in tongues at first when I was in university as a result of attending a pentecostal church but did not grow as a xtian and backslided. But by God's grace has bn restored and now speak in another kind of tongue now.
My query now has to do with d observation that the vocabulary of the to tongue increases occasionally. I started with about 2 sentences of few words but it's abt 6 sentences now.
When I pray in tongues I just pray them and repeat them a few times and go back to praying in understanding. Am I going abt this rightly.
I do not av d gift of interpretation.
Awaiting ur response and thx

Yes!
And do not try to force it nor strive to improve with force as no one can experience spiritual growth(speaking in tongue) through human effort. It's a gift not a must or degree. You are still growing, and in due time you will increase if indeed you possess what it takes to. But be contended with what you have now and don't struggle to increase lest you fail or possess demon tongue.
